The Burlington Sport Alliance Masters Athlete of the Year Award recognizes outstanding competitive adults (35+), who excel in their sport, demonstrate leadership, and contribute to the advancement of athletics in the Burlington community.
Greg Oulton - Male Masters Athlete of the Year
Congratulations to Greg on an outstanding year of achievement!
Greg joined the Burlington Masters Swim Club in 2016 and is a lifelong competitive swimmer. Over the past year, he has distinguished himself through his unwavering commitment to the sport and exceptional athletic performance.
His accomplishments include numerous podium finishes at the Ontario Swim Series meets and the Ontario Provincial Championships, reflecting both his talent and dedication. Greg finished second overall in the Ontario Swim Series, helping BMSC secure a third-place finish in the series standings.
At the Provincial Championships, Greg's outstanding performance earned an impressive 297 points (117 individual points and 180 relay points), which played a pivotal role in the team's second-place overall finish.
Greg's dedication, competitive spirit, and consistent excellence continue to inspire his teammates and contribute significantly to the success of BMSC. We are proud to recognize his remarkable achievements and congratulate him on an exceptional season.
Melanie McKay - Female Masters Athlete of the Year
Congratulations to Melanie on an outstanding return to competitive swimming!
Melanie competed in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in the 200m Breaststroke. In 2025, she joined the Burlington Masters Swim Club as a coach and, in 2026, returned to her swimming roots as a competitor.
Over the past year, Melanie has demonstrated exceptional dedication, performance, and sportsmanship. Competing in the Masters 65–69 age category, she has achieved outstanding results that reflect both her remarkable talent and renewed commitment to the sport. Her accomplishments include podium finishes at Ontario Swim Series meets, the Ontario Provincial Championships, and the National Championships. Most notably, Melanie set both Provincial and National records in the 200m Breaststroke.
Melanie's contributions extended beyond her individual achievements. Her impressive 274 points at Provincials (124 individual points and 150 relay points) were instrumental in helping the Burlington Masters Swim Club secure a second-place overall team finish.
Beyond her competitive success, Melanie exemplifies the true spirit of Masters athletics. She balances her training and competition schedule with her coaching responsibilities, serving as a role model for athletes of all ages. Her commitment to excellence is evident not only in her results but also in her disciplined approach to training, continuous improvement, and positive attitude.
Melanie's leadership, mentorship, and encouragement have had a lasting impact on her fellow athletes and on the club as a whole. Her return to competition has been nothing short of inspiring, and we are proud to recognize her exceptional achievements and contributions to the Burlington Masters Swim Club.
