2025 Masters Swimming Awards Honour Petra Haneberry

Swimming Canada Long Term Contribution Award: Awarded to Petra Haneberry (Burlington Masters Swim Club)

Congratulations to our very own Petra Haneberry for being recognized for her long term contribution to Masters Swimming and the Burlington Masters Swim Club!

Petra was recently recognized Nationally by Swimming Canada on May 20, 2026 for her leadership that has spanned over two decades.  She has been the driving force behind the success, growth and sustainability of the Burlington Masters Swim Club. 

Serving three terms as Club President, (2005-2006, 2012-2014, and 2024 - Present), Petra has provided visionary leadership and unwavering dedication.  Most recently, she played a pivotal role in securing the club's future by leading the municipal process that ensured long term pool access.  She also championed the introduction of the new morning swim program, expanding opportunities for members and supporting the growth of our club. 

As meet manager of the highly popular Winter Splash meet, Petra has helped transform the event into a regional showcase recognized for its exceptional organization, welcoming atmosphere and competitive excellence.  Her outstanding communication skills, ability to recruit and support strong coaching and volunteer teams have been instrumental in creating a positive and thriving club culture.

Beyond her leadership contributions, Petra is an accomplished swimmer who continues to lead by example as a teammate, mentor, volunteer and competitor.  Her lasting impact on BMSC and the masters swimming community reflects a remarkable commitment to service, excellence, and the sport she loves.
